My bookmark for YT is not the home page but the one that shows the forum sections (is that an index page?). I usually just click on new posts and then most any thread title gives you an idea of the thread subject. You could avoid seeing the front page animal abuse stories this way.

But, I agree with Ericka. As unpleasant as the abuse stories are, I believe knowledge is power. If no one read, these monsters would continue to get away with their actions. Or judges will continue to treat the cases as misdemeanors they've been plead down to. At least by reading it's possible to get involved and hopefully put a stop to some of these atrocities, or at the very least influence the prosecution/punishment of the criminals.
