This is what I did. Short version, Last Thursday Dr. Bing gave me the option of bringing Charlie (my 13yr Pom/Chi Mix) back every few days to keep flushing out his kidneys. There was no guarantee that it would work and he assured me he felt like we would feel if we had the flu/cold. My other option was to let him go.

My brother and his family came down to say their good-byes Thursday evening. I sat in my car Friday morning with Charlie and cried. I couldnt even start my car because I began to doubt my decision. When I looked in Charlie's eyes and he looked at mine, I know in my heart I was making the right decision. Like Vicky said, Your heart will know. And I did know.

I took him out there and I held him, during and after. It was the hardest thing I had EVER done in my life. It broke my heart, it still breaks my heart and continues to break my heart when I think about it. Even tho I knew it was right, it did not make it hurt any less. It felt like my heart was ripped out.

My hurt will heal over time but his hurt was not healing. It was not fair to him to keep him that way. He was no longer able to do the things he enjoyed.

As you said, it is ultimately your decision. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
