My new puppy is 2 1/2 months old. I only had to take him out a couple times a night the first week. I too am a very light sleeper and have his crate on a nightstand by my bed....so if I heard him moving around or start to cry a little, I'd take him out. Now he goes all night without needing out. However, my day starts early so I am up around 5 am taking all the pups out. Cowboy seems smarter than my 4 1/2 month old pups who totally don't mind peeing in their crate at all.
