If I had to offer one word of advice for people looking at insurance plans, it is to read their conditions very, very closely. Pet insurance is very different from human health insurance. They CAN ignore pre-existing conditions, and they CAN refuse to cover congenital issues.

I decided to go with Trupanion primarily because they will cover congenital conditions. Penny has a brother who has a liver shunt, and while I have never seen any sign of similar problems in her, I flat out rejected all of the plans that would not cover congenital problems if one were to surface.
