I guess you're not alone, one person wrote that he wouldn't buy a dog registered with the AKC because the organization had the word "Kennel" in their name. Unfortunately, he believed that APRI, was a respectable registry, but it was actually started by commercial breeders, and stands for American's Pet Registry Inc. Maybe it's a friendlier name, but don't let that fool you, it's free to commercial breeders, and dogs sold in Pet Stores are often registered with them. "Kennel" use to be an extremely respectable word, and only associated with breeders with the most knowledge, sorry to hear the word leaves a bad taste in some people's mouth. So beware of the spin-doctors, who make something sound cute and cozy, like anything with the word "pumpkin" or "pumpkin patch"
as well as those who try to sound respectable.
