When Molly had her puppies I covered the bottom of the playpen with potty pads. Once the puppies started moving around and pottying on their own I started removing some of the pads so they would have to walk over to the one they had been using. I had mine all pad trained by just a few weeks old. Now that they are adults I still use potty pads on the protective trays and they also go outside.
I've never tried the litter...I was always afraid they would eat some of it...but, according to my husband...I'm a worry wart
