| Potty training before they go to forever home When should I start pad training them? They are 2 wks now. I was thinking of training them on doggie litter instead but it seems more difficult. Thanks

| mine stay in a crate until they are about seven weeks old. they have a pee pad in there that mama uses but they don't get it at that age. THEN, I introduce them to the other dogs after I start their shots and between mama teaching them and them following the other dogs, they just kind of start suing the pad on their own. mine are generally pretty much pad trained when they leave me. |

From experience I know that it's best to start them young. Mine all do very well outside and on pads. I really want them to leave pad trained because I read about so many people who get frustrated when it comes to potty training them. I want to make it as easy as possible for the new families Thanks sugar's mom

| When Molly had her puppies I covered the bottom of the playpen with potty pads. Once the puppies started moving around and pottying on their own I started removing some of the pads so they would have to walk over to the one they had been using. I had mine all pad trained by just a few weeks old. Now that they are adults I still use potty pads on the protective trays and they also go outside. I've never tried the litter...I was always afraid they would eat some of it...but, according to my husband...I'm a worry wart |

Your worries are legit.............That is exactly what Tayah did!!! She ate the litter first thing and would pick it up in her mouth and play with it! I tried to tell her no and she would turn around and go right back! So we decided to use potty pads! They also go outside!

| We start our puppies out at about 3-4 weeks. We keep the bed area VERY VERY clean and replace blankets multi times a day and put a pee pad on the other side. It is a small area at first and it is amazing how it is natural that they will go over to the pee pad to go potty.

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | I introduced pee-pads at 3 weeks old, and Phantom has been trained ever since. It took his sister quite a bit longer though!!

| I don't start, let me state that differently. My mothers don't start potty pad training them until they've had their first shots and I take them out into the kitchen to begin their socialization. The first 8 weeks they are left alone with mom in my bedroom. No handling other than to take temps, weigh, cut toe nails and trim ears..... By the time they are 12 weeks of age, mom has done her job and they are piddle pad trained......

| I put a potty pad in with them at 4 weeks old, they tend to use it. Mom goes out the doggie door to potty in a covered area then I prop open the doggie door for the kids after their shots and about 8 weeks old, then they follow Mom. |
