I use a weewee pad as a tray liner and put the litter stuff on the top. It's easier to clean because I can just lift the whole things up. The 3 years old is doing fine with the tray but if he does his business after I leave the house, he doesn't like to use the tray again until I come back and clean it up in the evening. The 6 months is getting better for not chewing those pallets but on a bad day he will trash both weewee pad and those pallets in his litter tray.
