However in yorkies, the normal breeding concepts can be thrown out the window. Smaller male to larger female doesn't help keep the pups smaller as they grow. It's based on the line. You can't breed pheno type to pheno type in yorkies and predict what your gonna get as you can in lets say poodles.
I have a male that his normal weight is 4 pounds, a bit overweight now at 5 1/2 pouns, that throws his father, each and everytime. He's father was 7 pounds. You're very lucky if you have a stud that throws his self.
Also, let's say that you see a dog that has everything you absolutely love, the very best chance of you getting that dog is to breed to his father.
