Okay, I am going to give my honest opinion. I feel that many people are trying to do too much to these new born puppies. Nothing is better than just plain old momma's milk. I have never used the NurseMate so I am not sure the purpose of it is. I do not give Nutri-drops unless I feel it is really necessary. Then I would give only 1 drop. It is important to make sure the newborns attach to the momma, it is important the pups have a heating pad that maintains a temperature around 100 degrees, it is important that the momma can get off the heating pad and does not get too hot because if the momma gets too hot, that will greatly reduce her milk production.

I have posted the following article before and in paragraph 10 it give a recipe for glucose water. This is what a recommend to give a newborn the first few days, only if the puppy seems weak or is not gaining.

I feel it is very important that the momma get plenty of food after the pups are born BUT I do not change up their diets after they have pups except for giving them more of the canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food which I add to their dry Canidae or Chicken Soup puppy food and they get 1/2 of a Doc Roy's Healthy Bone twice a day. I will also give the momma Nutri-cal a few times a day if she is not eating well. I always hand feed my mommas the first few days. Some mommas will loose their appetite after having pups, especially if they eat some of the afterbirth. I always offer my momma food right after they have had pups and most of the are ready to eat because they had not had a lot to eat prior to delivering.
