HI and welcome...
My female, Bitsy, RIP. did have bladder stones and she was about 7 to 9yrs I think. They were Calcium Salcilate<sp?> but the vet did Not know what kind they were until After the surgery so for him to say they were not calcium seems strange. They can be very painful and will block off the flow. What happend to Bitsy is the 2 stones she had were to large to pass, she only weighed 5#. She started with frequency when I realized she was going more than normal I wiped her and saw the urine was pink meaning blood in the urine. She had the surgery pretty quick after the diagnosis and did fine afterward. She did have dietary restrictions and was on Science Diet UD Canned food until she was 16yrs when she passed. It will be kind of expensive but its best to buy it by the case or if it comes in kibble the larger size, it is actually cheaper that way in the long run. Ofcourse it's all in what you can afford.
I'm abit concerned that the vet has never seen stones in a Yorkie, it is actually kind of common. One of my males had them too. Be sure he has done the surgey before he does it.. Want to be sure he knows what he's doing. You might want to get an estimate of what is ALL gonna cost. I think Bitsy's was close to a thousand bucks, but thats in Tampa. Try to encourage fluids, maybe if she has one in the canal she can get it to flush it out and reduce the pain she is in. She Is in pain... You can request a prescription for pain so both of you can get some sleep. Do Not breed her again... The surgery is pretty tough and it would not be fair, plus having x rays will cause problems with puppies. She will need to not be bred for a while so everyting can heal and she can carry a pregnancy. It is considered a major surgery.
Good Luck, Prayers coming your way.. PLease keep us posted as to how the two of you are doing..... Hugs, Sharon
