Ugghh! In FL we have to be on guard for ants all of the time. We've had a ton of rain and I'm having a little battle right now.
The best thing I've found for the little ones that come indoors is Terro baits. You have to keep them out of reach of your dogs but trust me, the ants will find them. It is pretty gross for a day or so because you can't kill them. They have to take the bait back to their nest but in the meanwhile they will swarm the bait- nasty! It really does work well though, by far the best thing I've found. I've been lucky that they've never gone after the dog food but I've read you can put the doggie dishes in a little pan of water to keep the ants out.
