I use gloves that have little bristles on the thumb and pointer finger. Mine hate getting their teeth brushed but I feel like I have better control using my fingers over a brush. I have tried it all. I am on the look out for better toothpaste though. Right now I can't think of the name of the stuff I have and it might be ok, I don't know. I got it at Petco.
