There are also other programs, such as "Search and Rescue" that is funded by the AKC that you will help support. The $20.00 fee allows your dog to go down in history, and I'm hoping that in the future with greater technology, scientists will learn more about genetic diseases through this registry. Also, by registering your dogs, you help keep breeders honest, many breeders tell buyers the dogs are AKC eligible, but in truth they are not. Just because the parents were registered, many people believe the offspring can be registered, but this isn't true at all. The breeder must have registration rights. The AKC is one of those clubs that the fee is modest, but most people can't get into because they aren't eligible. So if your dog is really eligible, register him! If in the event of unforeseen circumstances, it would ever be necessary to rehome your dog, an AKC registered dog would probably have a much easier time finding a new home. Registering the dog also tells the AKC, how many actual liters a particular dog is producing, and this means more frequent inspections, and possibly even DNA testing. |
