This actually happened to me, but luckily, the manufactures date is encoded on the serial numbers on air conditioner units, it was easy to prove the unit was not the year promised in the contract, but a model that was three years older, and with a much poorer efficiency rating. Here's a site that helps you figure out the year of your model. AIR-CONDITIONER DATE CODES
