I have groomed my Uni myself from day one. She has never been to a groomer. I'm proud to say i think she looks great! For example, always try to hold and massage her paws and pads. She will get used to you touching her there. If she pulls away, let her. Don't ever yank on her hands. When she is sleeping on your lap, massage her paws. Eventually she will get used to it. I have Uni sleep on my lap on her back, paws up, and i will clip her nails while she is asleep! Hee hee, after each clip she wakes up and goes "huh? what just happened...?" and falls back asleep! Same with cutting around the face, it's easier to see when she is on your lap upside down. Also a good tool for the tips of the ears, get those eyebrow shaver things from the beauty supply store, and just use it to shave off the fur at the tips. i will try to upload some just groomed photos of Uni to see what i do with her fur. I'm really proud of myself! : )

Oh, DO NOT TRY PETI-CURE OR PEDI PAWS. they do not work! I bought one and the sound freaked out Uni. Would you like your nails to be filed down with a rotary Dremmel tool? I wouldn't! The dogs in the commercial love it BECAUSE ITS NOT ON!!! I got duped, thankfully I got my money back, but it took over 6 months! Good thing they refunded because most credit card companies after 6 months you are no longer protected.

As with any kind of training, it takes time. Just be patient. Sometimes it will take days to get all her mails cut. it's better to take your time than get frustrated and spook out your furbaby.
