Really, if you don't see any way of having the money in the VERY near future, the only right thing to do would be to surrender the dog to a rescue so that he can get the help he needs. It would KILL me to surrender my dog, but if he was suffering for 3 weeks and I had no way within my means of getting him well, I'd do it in a heartbeat because I love him so much.

I agree. If you cannot give Max the medical care he needs, it is not fair to make him suffer and most likely lose both his legs.
