Do you know that today's Yorkies are thirty-six times more likely to inherit a liver shunt shunt than all other breeds combined? There is a very simple bile acids test that can tell a breeder if the dog she plans on breeding has liver disease, but backyard breeders don't even spend the approximately $75 (or less) to have it done.
Liver shunts cost thousands of dollars to surgically repair. I would never consider buying a Yorkie puppy from a breeder who didn't bile acid test. |
Question: So if both parents bile acid test were negative for liver shunt...would that guarantee the puppies will not have liver shunt?
Thanks in advance, I'm just curious.
