Thunder used to hide when he pooped as well. We realized that it was because we would get mad at him for not going on the pad itself. If you scold him for pooing on the edge of the pad, he will likely not want you to see him poo and will go hide. Now, Thunder poos right on the pad. It took him a couple of weeks, but he got it. I would take his poo and put it on the pad, let him smell it, and then take it off. Don't forget that they are puppies, and their aim is not always accurate either. Good luck.
