What I read was that it's a fungus that they can get if they get too cold and I also read that they can get it if their hair is cut super short as well. I think I read that it can spread if left untreated but I'm not positive. It sounds as if the fungus buildup blocks the hair growth but once you get rid of the fungus the hair has a good chance of growing back in. Apparently persistance is key to treating it as results can be slow to show up. I didn't read anywhere that said if it does or doesn't pose a health risk. It just seems like it would be uncomfortable living with something like that growing on your face and ears so I would like to get it treated.
I noticed that too, on her ears but wasn't sure what to make of it. I'm not that educated on anything about dogs really, Chuckie is my first one, and he's still a baby. I felt it along her ears and figured she must've just been bitten by another dog or something and lost a bit of her ear, but I just read something about leather ear after reading your post, and it says it can eat away at the ears. Hope you can figure out what's going on with her.
