Jamie~ Chewie was a doll and he was and is so lucky to be loved by you and to have had you as his mommy. I am so sorry you had the bad vet experiences. I have found that it is so important to do a lot of my own research and to get lots of second opinions and even use a variety of vets because I have only had my yorkies for 10 moinths but have been through a lot of vets.
I have also educated myself on vaccines and other so called normal protocols that most vets ascribe to and there is a lot of good info on the web in addition to some really great homeopathic vets who offer alternatives which are less invasive and work even better than some of the traditional western veterinary medicine. I find that a combination of homeopathic and western vets works well for me and my family.
