We are in GA so, I use Interceptor for my babies. I also use it year round because with us being in the south you just never know. As I found out the hardway. While my dad was sick I missed in the winter now one maybe 2 doses of interceptor with our lab and she has heartworms but because of her age we opted to with vets ok to have a heartworm test every year and keep giving her the interceptor which this was 5 years ago now and she has never missed a step. The reason we opted not to do the treatment on her was several factors her age and several vets telling us that they could not guarantee a 100% kill rate of the heartworms and that with her age she may not recover from it. The vet is shocked every time I bring her in for her yearly heartworm test. What I was told is that the pills keep them from growing and getting bigger. I don't know if that is correct or not. The treatment is also very costly.

I'm sure I'm going to get plently of comments positive and negative. Just to let you know this decision was not reached lightly. My lab is still going strong at 13 years old and is healthy otherwise. She just went to the vet and he said that her heart still sounds very healthy. The only concern he had was a fatty tissue cyst on her lower back.

Please before you post don't judge too harshly. It was also based on the money which would be well over $1000. Thanks for reading.
