What happened was it sounded like the little guy had a hypoglycemia attack earlier this week. When our breeder went to check on him he was having a seizure and his gums were pale white. He was given some karo syrup, and did snap out of it. He's eating some on his own now again, and the breeder is syringe feeding him some as well to ensure he's getting enough nutrition.
He's currently 10 weeks old, and weighs 1.5lbs. It's been several days now, and it seems like he's back to his old self. It's crazy that he was perfectly fine up until this point! Were going to go visit him tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed for this little guy to stay healthy, so he can come home with us next week sometime!! |
yea, its good that the breeder is keeping him longer. in fact, it's best if breeder can keep him till 12 weeks. it would actually be best for the dog and you if the doggie is kept with the doggie mommy and siblings longer. (i know it's hard for you to wait! )
they learn a lot from their moms and siblings. like bite inhibition, and socialization in general (both VERY important). and for this reason, usually good breeders will keep their dogs till at least 12 weeks before letting them go to new homes.
from my personal experience, i got milu at 20 weeks, and it was wonderful. because she was able to sleep through the night at that point. so i never had to go through the stage of waking up every 2 hours that a lot of puppy owners had to go through.
best of luck to you and your furbaby. don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need help with your new puppy.
