Omg Scary moment with Jackson!

First, he seems to be fine now but I may bring him into the vet tomorrow AM just to check and be safe.

So where we live (out in the "Country!") it's on 3 acres of land and behind us is 60 acres of farmland not owned by us. Jackson loves it out here. I let him roam around leash-free but only when I am outside with him to watch him and make sure he doesn't wander too far. Well, the farm (who owns the land behind us) owns 3 Black Labs. Two of them are very nice and friendly, the third is always friendly to humans but can get growly with dogs. So, I saw the Black lab outside and of course Jackson gets SO excited because he absolutely loves other dogs. I always let him have the chance to go see other dogs. I didn't know which black lab this was, they all look the same. So I have Jackson on the leash/harness to let him see the dog... well, I couldn't find my regular leash, so I grabbed the closest one which was the retractable leash, I hardly use unless we're on a beach or open field, etc.

So, Jackson ran out, all friendly and wanting to sniff the dog and SNAP, the Black Lab bit Jackson in the face. Thank GOD, I grabbed him real quick and thank god the black lab "just" did a quick bite because what if he hadn't of let go? Ugh, can't imagine. So I get Jackson in the house real quick (we were right by the door into our house) and he just YELPS repeatedly for a good 30 seconds and then stopped. He broke the skin a tiny bit on the top of his nose and part of his mouth was bleeding - I have a feeling it made it worse that he had his teeth pulled 6 days ago so he's still really sore. At first I thought the dog had yanked one of Jackson's front teeth out, but I think what had happened was the skin/gum got ripped a bit. He drank water right away and stopped crying after that 30 seconds and I don't see any other wounds anywhere right now. But I was so scared & upset! I just wanted to cry! My poor baby. He seems absolutelty fine right now except a little shaken up, maybe. But he drank a lot of water and he even ate a bit of my roast beef that we had had for dinner.. I may bring him into the vet tomorrow just to check him out, though. I don't want to go to an emergency vet because of the extra money it would be, especially if he is totally fine right now. Also, thankfully, Jackson is a bigger boy at 13lbs because if he was smaller, I think this dog could've hurt him alot worse!

But ya know, I'm pissed off at myself because I should have known better! But I was trying to be nice to Jackson and let him see the other dog so he would stop freaking out from inside the house. He seriously LOVES other dogs!! I hope this doesn't change that.

And I'm mad because yes, we live on a farm technically and yes the 60 acres of farmland behind us is THEIR property but I just wish they could control their dogs more. It happened on OUR property and my dog was leashed!! It's just so frustrating. It's one thing to let a dog loose if it's friendly but if it has aggression problems, probably not smart.
