I've heard that too - that once you do it, you have to keep doing it. I don't know if it's true or not.

I have never had my Yorkies glands emptied and they are fine -we've never had a problem. I do know that if their stools are always on the soft side, it can be more of a problem. More formed (a bit harder) stools are supposed to help the anal glands empty on their own when the dog poops.
