His vision should be just fine. Nia is in that stage too and I have tried pulling up what I can into a topknot and putting barrettes on the shorter hairs but it is usually all undone within a matter of minutes. (Her and Febi love to roll around playing.) So I just leave it flopping over into her face, and I actually think she likes it that way as she is still quite shy and the hair helps to hid her.
