I can't imagine anyone having a hissy fit about one of those. They're not permanent, and definitely not unsightly.

Perhaps they just wanted to give you permission first? Some HOA's are like that: they just want to be able to "tell" you it's OK ... on a power trip of some sort.
They want us to submit a $50 application to the HOA which they can approve or reject. The thing is I don't see how this is different than Patio furniture or holiday decorations. Ugh! so frustrating!
