Default Tri / Biewer Question

For the record, I have no intention of breeding him especially since due to a dispute with the stud owner my Johnny Cash was never offered papers, but I have a question just for the sake of curiosity:

Johnny Cash is now 2 1/2 years old and he still has a white patch of hair on his chest. I was told that if he would lose his white hair if he was a purebred yorkie and that if he still had the white later, he might be a 'carrier" of the gene (?, I'm not a breeder so sorry for my lack of terminology) that results in the tri or biewer breeds. Is this true?

I'm not sure you can see it, but the lighter hair on his chest in this pic is actually white:


The other picture is a pic of him on the day we brought him home. It's been a bit photoshopped, but it gives you an idea of his yorkie traits.
