I'm curious as to how they've diagnosed it as a shunt as well? If all you've done is a bile acid test and it came back high, that doesn't diagnose anything other than liver disease. However, you can not determine the type of liver disease without further testing. A liver shunt is usually diagnosed with diagnostic imaging such as ultrasound (although not always accurate), portogram, or scintigraphy. If a shunt isn't seen, then it could be Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia or another type of liver disease...all of which can be diagnosed with a liver biopsy.

University of Tennessee is one of the best for diagnosing and correcting shunts, and to my knowledge they are also one of the cheapest.
