I am so very sorry for your loss.

A friend of mine went through something similar with her poodle. Her regular vet performed the surgery...and subsequently she had to take her to an ER vet. The ER clinic diagnosed the dog properly, provided care but the dog had to be pts anyway. My friend found a vet who read the file from the ER vet's and was willing to testify if it went to court. My friend contacted the original vet with this information....and he refunded her the cost she'd paid to him plus the 5000.00 bill from the ER clinic. This may be an option for you too.

Btw, if you chose to sue...civil filings only cost $35 here in Va. It's not necessary to have a lawyer...just have all your documentation available.
