Small, young pups can't go all day without eating.
Older dogs may be able to.
Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 days to get them to eat their food and some start throwing up bile because of it. Not healthy... It is said that a dog will never allow itself to die of starvation but if they are throwing up bile, they aren't at their healthiest, so waiting them out for too long isn't a good idea in my opinion. Then you have the issue of if they don't eat all day they don't like their food and a dog should enjoy their food, so some people will switch it for them...
