You'll need a pin brush and a butter comb. Personally I love the brushes from Chris Christenson. Those are not available at petsmart. Another CC brush that comes highly recommended to me...is the wooden bristle brush. I have one on the way...but haven't tried it yet. I hear it's wonderful for working out mats.

A human pair of shears will work for trimming up ears, and pads.

You need to invest in a nice set of clippers. You can purchase them with a variety of clipper attachments for different lengths.

I use a nail clipper on mine. Their nails are clipped every 2 weeks. If you can hear the sound of nails when they walk on the floor...they're too long.

Before doing any clipping...he needs to brush out thoroughly. Use a comb to determine if his coat is knot free. This step is more important than whether or not to bathe first.

The hair inside the ear canel needs to be removed. You can use your fingers and ear powder to get it out.

The edges of the ears should be kept trimmed and even with the ear cartiledge. They should be shaved a 1/3 the way down inside and out. Imagine a traingle.

The hair should be trimmed between their paw pads.

Good luck...and remember it's only hair. I haven't ever gotten as angry at ME...as I have a groomer.
