I personally would pick a groomer that you can have a personal relationship with, so I would lean toward the private groomer. There have been a lot of threads on here regarding Petsmart and Petco and I personally did not have a good experience when Pebbles was a puppy with my local Petsmart. You might also consider calling your vet for a reference. I didn't know this until after the fact but my vet recommends my groomer to his patients. Please be aware that grooming is lifelong for our pups and you need to help build a very strong foundation at this young age so they can feel comfortable when they need grooming. Also, before your first appointment I would got to the shop and check out what it looks like, the atmosphere and the groomers themselves. Helps you to get a better idea of what to expect prior to leaving your baby in someone else's hands.
