I always tell buyers to go to a breeder's home, if a breeder won't allow this, then a buyer should look elsewhere. A buyer needs to see how the dogs are being raised. For the breeder's safety, I would expect them to develop some type of relationship with the buyer. A puppy shouldn't be sold overnight. You can get vet references as well as other references; you want to check them out, as much as a rescue does. If you are producing pups, you are responsible for finding them a good home, and if you don't trust the people enough to even come to your home, you shouldn't sell them a helpless puppy.
