I can relate to this from a personal standpoint! When Pippa got out last May and went missing all night, our neighbor across the street saw her at about 1pm (we didn't get home to discover her missing until 3pm). He is a college student and said he called to her and she ran back over to our front porch, so he figured she'd stay there. He was late to class and didn't pursue it. We found all this out while we were canvassing the neighborhood and she was still missing. It was heartwrenching to think that she was RIGHT THERE and he could have picked her up if he was persistent. How I wanted to turn back time!! Thankfully, she was found the next morning, but of course we thought she was gone for good. If ever I am in a situtation and see an obviously well-cared for dog I will stop and try to get it and find the owner. I know I would want someone to do it for me.
