I think that is awesome you love mutts, there are so many that need wonderful home's , I think its just a matter of personal preference or lifestyle, I wanted a yorkie for my living conditions as well as medical conditions..
To keep your dog in a nice hair cut is also preference but also maintains a clean healthy dog, alot of ' mutts" dont require extra grooming other then mabye a shave for the summer...
I dont think its a competition on whos dog is better looking or who has a better hair cut , its really about the breed of dog you have, Yorkies have very long hair , they need to be groomed unless you want it long but it would still need to be trimed and kept up!!
My daughter is 13, she gets her hair cut, foiled and trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks if I didnt make her brush her hair or keep it maintained she would look a mess too!! Now if I had a son, he would probally just want a short hair cut and I would have to do that or he would look like a girl
