I've had so much fun training my yorkie. He is sooo smart. At 8 weeks he learned to sit & lay with the help of a plastic clicker which I found at the petstore for about $3. Then gradually, as he would do movements I would attach a word to it and treat him. Like when he would lay his head down on his paw, I would say sleepy dog and treat him right away. Now at 11 months he is full of tricks and sometimes does a little trick combo routine which is too cute. Just to name a few: sit, stay, laydown, come, uppie, lets dance, high five (which is actually high ten), shake, leftie (shake with left hand), how are you (then he moans), bang bang, roll over, hello (and waves his hand over the hair in his eyes), and he just learned thank you last week (bow his head down toward the floor). He's easy to train because he knows he'll get a treat which is usually just dog food and lots of attention. |
