Cropping a yorkie's ears is bad news. No reason for it at all. I've been assisting a breeder with whelping for 4 years and have never seen/had a yorkie's ears cropped. This is more of a practice for breeds like dobermans, where the ears won't stand up on their own (because they are naturally floppy), but how threatening does a floppy eared doberman look? I personally don't believe in ear cropping of any dog. I think it's a bit barbaric since all the ones I've seen were done at an age where they definitely remember the trauma. When I was in Austria I was shocked that it is illegal to dock the tails and crop the ears of dogs. Breeders often take their litter over the border to Hungary or the Czech Republic to get it done. I personally have no problem with docking the tails, since it is done at such a very young age...it's a bit like circumcision. Quickly done, no memories. |
