I've seen gates for wider door frames on ebay (thought about getting one for our open kitchen). You buy the normal size one and can buy the attatchments that make them fit any size frame. They aren't cheap either, but I'd start with ebay as you can find good deals there.
We tried a normal doggy gate and Ranger climbed right over at 3 months of age. Apparantly there are a lot of smart yorkies who don't like to be confined!!
