I think it is actually the opposite of being insecure- he thinks he is in charge and thus- he needs to protect you from these other dogs- Layla did this- was a SWEETHEART- went to day care- fine fine fine- but when it came to her and myself- with other dogs- there were issues- Now- she knows I am in charge- I am alpha and I don't need to be protected... you should try:

it worked really well for us- now Layla wants to go say hi- she still has a bit of fear agression- if another dog is TOO eager to say hi and is in her face she can snap- but our behaviorist told us that is just beacuse of her size- but we are working on it
