I love, love, love my rescue babies. Harley was 5 when I got him and had been given up by his 3 previous owners. I was the 4th and he was surrendered to a rescue. He was sooooo sick...4 lbs and skin and bones. His hair was thin and a few bald spots. I took him as a foster mom. He had seizures almost daily and the first week that I had him he threw up and had uncontrollable diarhea. I felt so bad for him. He wouldn't eat. So, I tried anything and everything to get him to eat. The rescue had him to the vet but there were times that he was so sick I would just take him to my vet. His owner surrendered him because they suspected Liver Shunt and she didn't want to spend the money on an ultrasound. Lucky me....I love Harley. He did not have liver shunt but just a dog that has seizures. He is on phenobarbitol twice daily. And now healthy as a horse. He hardly ever has seizures. He is 7 lbs. and has a beautiful coat. He is such a joy! Then along came Pixie...another one that I fostered. I had been wanting a small little girl. I wanted to wait until one came through our rescue. Pixie is not perfect either but she is precious. She came with staff infection from flea infestation and no energy and very scared. Her little head tilts. When I took her for her spay, teeth cleaning and shots I talked to the vet about her head tilt. He found that she had ear infection, teeth infected and had an old fracture in her jaw in 2 places that had never been treated. That explains why she has the head tilt. I would imagine that she was kicked, head closed in a door or possibly dropped. Poor, Poor little thing!! But after antibiotics and still with a tilted head she is running and playing with Harley. She is still scared sometimes but not all the time. She will come to me. The only down side to Pixie is she hates having a ponytail and I think they are so cute.

I don't guess you really needed to know all of that but I am glad that I have rescues. I bought my Poodle from a breeder 14 years ago when I didn't know any better and she is still with me. I think you have to know what is best for you. I know that being a foster mom and my rescues have given me the best feeling that I could have. They are healthy now and have their own little quirks, not perfect like you might get if you paid big bucks, but I love them just the same.

Good luck with Chloe! Have patience! She will come around but you just have to show her that the human hand is not all bad. And that life is good with you!! God bless you for getting a rescue!
