I am asking because I am truly intrigued by this topic and why people are so passionate about it. I mean, if we are talking about all the animals in shelters who are being euthanized everyday then why don't we just say, that no one should be breeding - purebred or not. Or if animals should only be breed to ensure the breed survives then why don't be propose having to have a license to breed that would be regulated by the government? I personally could never bring myself to breed (if I knew all the ends and outs about breeding) because I would be soooo worried that my puppies were going to end up with irresponsible people and then end up in a shelter. However, I have nothing against loving people who are breeding healthy. happy, well-rounded puppies regardless if they are purebred or mixed breeds.

Good post. Everyone always seems to think it's just mixed breeds that end up in animal shelters, there are A LOT of yorkies and other purebreds, it's just that you don't see as many as they hurry and get them to foster parents or rescues. I have called a few of the shelters around here, trying to find a purebred or mixed (small dog) is about impossible, as they go so fast. I don't think someone intentionally mixing makes for a bad breeder, not if they do everything the right way!
