They unlock in a certain order depending on the version you get. You'll unlock the last breed (the one on the covers of the two other versions) at 50,000 trainer points. Played this game a bit when I was off from college. :P Never did get to 50,000 trainer points though. But I did manage to unlock 3 breeds before classes started up. And I only ended up with a little over 8,000 points.
