Yorkies are the best. My oldest daughter has terrible asthma and has never reacted to our dogs. I don't advise getting a puppy from a pet store. They may tell you they got the puppy from a breeder, but no decent breeder would ever sell to a pet store. They usually get them from brokers who are supplied by the monsters who own puppy mills. My second Yorkie came to me (from a breeder) with a congenital liver shunt and that has been very difficult, trying and expensive. If possible, ask the breeder if they run bloodwork on their breeding adults. Any dog with high liver enzymes needs to be tested further. A simple blood test can detect or at least screen for a liver shunt. My puppy had absolutely no symptoms and we found out about his shunt just before he was to be neutered. Luckily it was caught early. I can't stress enough to get a Yorkie whose breeder screens for this condition. Good luck. You will be rewarded with many years of joy from this breed. |
