| I think a yorkie is a good choice for someone with allergies, but please don't buy from a pet store find a good breeder.

| Lots of good advice on here! Yorkies rule!!! Glad you're doing your homework - I did too!!! I keep Bailey in a puppy cut so she doesn't need daily brushing; absolutely no shedding. She goes to the groomer every 6 weeks ($30 plus $10 tip). She was potty trained in two months (we were consistient and dilligent and got it done!). No allergy issues here. And, no health issues! I love, love, love her!! Did I say "Yorkies rule!!"

| Yorkies are the best. My oldest daughter has terrible asthma and has never reacted to our dogs. I don't advise getting a puppy from a pet store. They may tell you they got the puppy from a breeder, but no decent breeder would ever sell to a pet store. They usually get them from brokers who are supplied by the monsters who own puppy mills. My second Yorkie came to me (from a breeder) with a congenital liver shunt and that has been very difficult, trying and expensive. If possible, ask the breeder if they run bloodwork on their breeding adults. Any dog with high liver enzymes needs to be tested further. A simple blood test can detect or at least screen for a liver shunt. My puppy had absolutely no symptoms and we found out about his shunt just before he was to be neutered. Luckily it was caught early. I can't stress enough to get a Yorkie whose breeder screens for this condition. Good luck. You will be rewarded with many years of joy from this breed.

| I'm terribly allergic to both dogs and cats, which is definitely a part of why we got our yorkie. Nikko is a very happy and healthy 5lb 6 month old little boy, and we keep him in a puppy cut too, so we almost never have to groom him. He's only bothered my allergies a couple times, but that was only when I hadn't given him a bath in over a week and a half or so. Lauren & Nikko |
