Default RE: small yorkie. big skin problems! please help us

Hi harleydivot,

Tiger our 4 year old, developed identical symtomps you describe about July last summer (08). Took him to a vet in early September got a shot and Augmentin in a form of liquid, which cleared away his belly from the dirty like scabs and the dry like scabs on his upper to lower back (nothing on his head ears or chest almost).
Late December things came back; waited for a while, and by late January things got bad as his scabs started to re-appear on this belly more and more. We took him to a vet again and got another shot, and antibiotics. This time
it was in a form of pills, I think called Cepha (short for Cephalexin), and it was for 10 days as were the first time it was only for 7.
We also got a Cortisoothe shampoo which the vet told us to bathe him twice a week for first 3 weeks than once a month. (we are past the twice a week / 3 week phaze) and his belly and skin is renewed id say 97 % still few light scabs which are cleaning up, but almost all gone.

We also went with a new dry food diet, Royal Canin Veterinary formula of Potato and Duck. Vet recommended we change his Eukanuba Yorkie Formula which Tiger was on all of his life so far. (dry). Also I changed his Milk Bone treats prior to all vet visits but that didn't do much. It seems its a constant battle and for now we are seeing great results, but the real victory is to ensure over the next few weeks things don't reappear. Hope your problems are solved and I will update you and others in our fight and process of elimination.

P.S. We also give Tiger Salmon Oil which he enjoys as much as he new food.

Good Luck
