I don't even have my puppy yet but I have purchased some of the things you are talking about.
As far as where and how much...
There are a large number of pet supply places online. I generally found a great deal of the same products at each place. However, I shopped according to shipping costs and sales.
I have not purchased a heartworm med. I will see what our vet says on the wellness check. As in anything related to a medicinal product, I will trust his education over mine...unless I have questions due to personal research.
I purchased tearless puppy shampoo and a de-tangler/conditioner. I am allergic to various "flowery" smells of many products so I either purchased without a scent or baby powder.
I purchased a kit of L'il Paws Petite grooming items made especially for the small dog. Our breeder may suggest something else...yet to be seen. This kit includes nail clippers, combs, brush, etc. However, I have also purchased a pedipaws but am unsure if I will use it. In the same category of grooming, I have also bought some of the hair bands and little, tiny lightweight bows.
You did not mention dental supplies. I'm not sure which I will like best but I have ordered the "thimble-looking" tool as well as a dog toothbrush and special toothpaste. Additionally, I have bought several chew toys that are supposed to deter tartar problems.
Lotion per se I have not bought. However, I have purchased some kind of paw balm to pamper her paw pads.
I have also purchased a pet emergency first aid kit and extra powder that stops bleeding should I ever brave the nail clipping. Plus, I've bought the powder that is supposed to aid the removal of hair in the ears.
After I get her and discover her most favorite treats, I plan to let one of them be assigned totally to her baths and/or grooming. I want her to associate the process as a good thing. Those particular treats will be used only for grooming adventures.
I would estimate that I have spent about $75-$100 on the above-mentioned items sans the treats. Of course, this is dependent upon such factors as product name recognition and cost of living in the area where you live. I generally purchased with little or no shipping costs.
Hope this helps but remember my Yorkie is still in the "bought but not in possession" stage. |
