It took me quite a few months of research, talking to people and etc before I took the plunge. If you get them from a shelter you don't know what health issues they have, what training if they had any, what damage they can do to your place of residence or how they will interact with you or your other pets you may have. So many dogs go thru the shelters and are picked up from the streets. I've talked with people whom got a dog from a shelter and within a week it died, literally. They would not replace it. I also was told that so many animals go thru the shelters and are checked by their Vet, but they have so many they can't check each pet totally.
