Pet stores themselves don't have to close. The just shouldn't sell dogs, especially not from puppy mills where 99% of them come from.

And you're right, people are going to keep buying from pet stores. But they shouldn't. And since you now know all the information about, you should be knowledgeable enough to inform others about it, even if it's just friends/family.

As to your question, how are people going to buy dogs? Haha! 3-4 million cats and dogs are euthenized (killed) every year. There is PLENTY (far too many!) dogs on this Earth and many many many places to choose from besides pet stores. Shelters, rescue groups, animal control facilities where the dogs usually only get to stay alive a week if no one adopts them. I also understand a lot of people want puppies (as I did, but my next I plan on rescuing with my older) and that's easy. There is LOADS of puppies in sheleters as well. The shelter near my house where I go often is always coming in with pregnant mothers and their pups. And then there's also the responsibile breeders to choose from!
