First, good for you getting out of a bad relationship!
Snoopy doesn't mind the leash, but he's not really into going where someone else wants him to, but this is what I've read/been told/am trying.
You might just put it on around the house, and let her get used to the feel of it. Then, get some treats and pick up the leash and get her to walk with you to get the treats. Add a phrase--I'm trying to use 'let's go'. Make it fun! Lots of praise!
